Gluten-Free Help at Your Fingertips: My Favorite Apps for Navigating Celiac Life

When I was first diagnosed with Celiac Disease, I felt utterly lost.

Every grocery trip turned into a two-hour label-reading marathon. Every restaurant visit came with anxiety and a whole lot of second-guessing. I didn’t know what was safe, what to trust, or where to start.

That’s where technology stepped in and gave me a little peace of mind.

Today, I want to share two apps that helped me when I felt overwhelmed — and still help me daily. This post isn’t sponsored or paid in any way — just one Celiac girl sharing what’s been helpful in hopes it might help someone else, too.

1. Fig App

This app was a total game-changer for me. It requires a monthly subscription, but in my opinion, it’s so worth it — especially when you’re just starting.

You can plug in:

  • Your allergies
  • The severity of your reactions
  • Your food preferences (like gluten-free, dairy-free, soy-free, etc.)

And then — magic. You can scan products at the grocery store, and it tells you if they’re safe for you. No more standing in the aisle, Googling ingredients, or trying to decode a label like it’s a secret message. 😅

What do I love the most?

Fig will notify you if a company changes an ingredient in a product you’ve scanned. That’s huge. Because as we know… just because it was safe last month doesn’t mean it’s still safe today.

2. Find Me Gluten Free

This one’s been my go-to for eating out.

You can search by location and find restaurants that offer gluten-free options, read reviews from other gluten-free diners, and get a general sense of how Celiac-safe a place might be.

Important note:

Always double-check with the restaurant yourself and be clear about your allergies and cross-contamination needs — but this app helps take the guesswork out of finding a starting point.

For me, it’s saved so much stress when traveling or just trying to pick a place close to home on a Friday night.
